Amazing Exhibits a Headline in Portland
Had an 1845 coin flip
turned out differently, next week's National Money Show would be in beautiful Boston, Oregon! Thanks to the Oregon Historical Society for exhibiting
"The Portland Penny," an 1835 large cent used to determine the name of a site in Oregon Country then called "The Clearing."
The Olsen specimen 1913 Liberty Head nickel, the most famous
of five known, joins the McDermott/Bebee specimen in Portland. The coin was featured on a 1973 episode of Hawaii Five-O titled "The $100,000
Nickel," and was once owned by the infamous King Farouk of Egypt. Thank you to the owner for this special addition to the show!
