WELCOME TO
ANA'S 38TH ANNUAL SUMMER SEMINAR
Session II
July 8 - 14, 2006
We are looking
forward to your arrival in Colorado Springs for this educational and
fun-filled week of numismatics. The following information gives you an
idea of what to expect regarding your travel and stay for the summer
seminar.
Arrival: ANA's free shuttle buses
meet you at the Colorado Springs airport on Saturday, July 8, 9 AM to 4
PM. After 4 PM, taxicabs are available. (Please complete the transportation form to let us know when
you are arriving and departing.) If you arrive
later than 11 PM, and are staying at the college, call college security
at 719-389-6707 before leaving the airport and let them know you need
admittance to your room and they will meet you at Loomis Hall. If you
are arriving after 8 PM and staying at one of the Bed & Breakfasts,
please call to make alternate check-in arrangements.
MS Bike at Colorado
College: Each year,
volunteers raise money for Multiple Sclerosis, a chronic, often
disabling disease of the central nervous system, by riding their bikes
150 miles from Denver through Colorado Springs to points south. This
year, 3000 volunteers will overnight at Colorado College on Friday, July
7, 2006. The main road in front of the college, Cascade Avenue will be
closed until they depart on Saturday morning. The road into Loomis
Dormitory and Seminar registration will be accessible, but there may be
some delay. ANA Seminar participants have co-existed with this group in
the past and the slight inconvenience caused by their presence is far
outweighed by the money raised to help fight this crippling
disease.
Registration and Luncheon: Registration is Saturday, July 8, 11 AM - 4 PM in Loomis Hall
Dormitory. There is a buffet lunch in the Loomis lounge from 11 AM - 3
PM. The ANA Library, Museum, and Museum vault are open on Saturday from
10 AM - 5:00 PM.
Colorado Springs Coin Show: The
Colorado Springs Coin Show at the Phil Long Expo Center, 1515 Auto Mall
Loop, Colorado Springs, CO 80920. (approx. 9 miles north of ANA) is open
to the public on Friday, July 7, 11 AM - 6 PM; open to Seminar Students,
with Seminar I.D. Badge, at 9 AM, Saturday, 9 AM - 6 PM and Sunday, 9 AM
- 4 PM. (Information: 719-634-3313) Shuttle service from Loomis Hall to
the show is available on Saturday, July 8, from 9:00 AM to 4:00
PM.
Dinner: The first group meal is
dinner, served from 5-6:30 PM in the Worner Center.
Opening Ceremonies: The Seminar
Opening Ceremony is Saturday, July 8 at 4:00 PM in the Gaylord Room in
Worner Center.
Seminar Book Sale: The Annual
Summer Seminar Book Sale to benefit the ANA Library collection is
Sunday, July 9, from 9-11 AM; Monday, 12-1 PM and 4-5 PM and Tuesday,
12-1 PM. Books, periodicals and auction catalogs are sold at prices you
can't resist. The ANA mailroom is ready to arrange shipment of your book
purchases.

Sunday, 1-4 PM, and Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. There is
an hour-and-a-half break for lunch.
Vault: The ANA Museum vault is
available for you to store your coins on Saturday from 10 AM - 5:00 PM,
Sunday through Thursday, 8-9 AM, 11:45-1:15 PM & 4-5:00 PM, and
Friday, 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM. Check with the receptionist at the ANA for
forms to be completed. Access to ANA and the Library lockers is
available after the mini-seminars from 9:30 to 10:30 PM. Please do not leave valuables in
your dorm room or class room.
Bull Sessions: Each day there are
numismatic bull sessions on various topics. These informal presentations
are optional, interesting and always a lot of fun to
collectors.
Dorm Life: One of the highlights
of the week is making new friends who, like you, revel in numismatics.
Part of building these new friendships is living in the dorm and rubbing
elbows every day with your classmates and instructors. However, the dorm
is not the Hilton; rooms (other than the CC Inn) do not have private
bathrooms or air-conditioning. Each room has a phone, window fan, and
refrigerator & microwave. Towels (not washcloths) and bed linens
are provided. Computers with Internet access, pay phones, and
coin-operated laundry facilities are available.
Graduation Activities: On
Thursday, July 13, there is a graduation reception at 6:00 PM followed
by the banquet at 7:00 PM in Worner Center. One ticket is included with
tuition. If you would like to bring a guest, additional tickets are
available at registration for $45 each.
Messages called into the ANA
headquarters (719-632-2646) are posted on the Seminar Bulletin Board.
The number for the Colorado College is 719-389-6000. In case of
emergency, ask to have the message forwarded to Lane Brunner, Director
of Numismatic Outreach.
Departure Day is Friday, July 14.
Colorado College requests that everyone check out of the dorm by 10 AM.
If you are staying for the optional Friday activities and would like to
stay an extra night in the dormitory, departing on Saturday, July 10,
please make arrangements by calling 719-632-2646, ext #126
($99 per person). To ensure a room, you should do this
immediately.
Airport Shuttle: The free ANA
shuttle to the airport begins on Friday, July 14 at 4:30 AM. Yes, coffee
will be available! The last shuttle to the airport departs from Loomis
Hall at 10:00 AM.
Clothing and Weather: Bring
casual clothes – there is nothing formal in this week of
numismatics. The humidity is usually in the 25-50% range. Temperatures
in the Rockies vary a great deal in the summer, probably warm during the
day (80-90°) but cool in the evening and early morning-a light
jacket or sweater is advisable. Late afternoon showers are not
uncommon. The
dormitories (except the CC Inn)
are not air
conditioned but the windows can be opened and
each dorm room has a window fan. Also, if you plan to take the Pikes
Peak tour, you will need warm clothes – it is never summer on the
Peak.
Health: Colorado Springs is
located at an altitude of 6,035 feet above sea level. The climate is dry
"Alpine Desert." During your visit, please drink plenty of liquids.
Bottled water is provided. Walking is required. There are elevators in
the dormitory, ANA, and most classroom buildings. Students with health
concerns should check with their doctors before arrival. Please contact
the Seminar office if you require special assistance.
