Two years ago, I ran for ANA governor on a platform of “change” (sound familiar?). Evidently,
the membership also wanted to see change―your votes led to the replacement of every governor on the Board. During the time that the present
Board has been in office, we have indeed implemented changes in the ANA’s leadership and in the ANA’s approach to its objectives. But
there’s more work to do. We have not resolved all the legal and financial issues incurred by the previous leadership. I believe that I still
have contributions to make to the ANA Board, and I want to do that.
My qualifications for this office are:
service of one term already; membership on the ANA’s Exhibiting and Judging Committee for 20 years; service as ANA’s chief judge for 14
years; and service as instructor at the ANA Summer Seminar (both weeks) for the past 10 years (working as principal, assistant or guest instructor in
12 different courses). I have been recognized by the ANA with many honors and awards during my 34 years of membership (including the Farran Zerbe
Memorial Award for Distinguished Service in 2005).
I am a retired Army colonel, with a
dual-concentration MBA (computer management and administrative theory/organizational behavior). I was president of the International Bank Note
Society, 1986-90, and have been treasurer since 1993. I was secretary of the Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association, 1994-2006, and also treasurer
1996-2006. (I now reside in Indiana, so I have resigned those posts.)
This election is not as critical as
2007’s―the heavy lifting has been done. But there is still work to do to bring the ANA back to a position of stability and strength. When
you cast your votes this year, please evaluate the candidates carefully. We need another cohesive Board.
If elected, I will continue to represent
the ANA membership in the manner that I believe you desire (and I welcome any comments or requests that you wish to make in that regard). I request
your support in achieving the office of governor of the ANA.
