The entangled connection between buffalo nickels and hobo nickels

National Coin Week is a few months away, April 22-27. Nevertheless, it is never too early to learn more about the buffalo nickel, which is this year's National Coin Week theme. Hobo nickels typically are designed from buffalo nickels, so their history goes is intertwined. Yet, the hobo nickel has its own distinctive history.

Notes from the Board of Governors meeting at the FUN Show

I received a few dispatches from Kim Kiick, one of the longtime managers here at the ANA, from the Board of Governors meetings at the FUN Show. Here is what the Board of Governors have been working on: 

 

  • Motion by Governor Lyon, second by Governor Adkins, to engage the firm of Survey and Ballot Systems, using their proposed hybrid web and mail ballot option, to conduct the 2013 ANA election. Passed.
  • Motion by Governor Rottinghaus, second by Governor Ellis, to accept Wednesday through Sunday as the official show days of the World's Fair of Money. After discussion, President Hallenbeck tabled the motion, to be taken up at the New Orleans National Money Show board meeting. 
  • Motion by Vice President Ostromecki, second by Ellis, to confirm the Presidential appointment of Hollie Wieland, of Karp Neu Hanlon, P.C., as General Counsel.

Donation will create new exhibit award for U.S. commemoratives

The Society for U.S. Commemorative Coins donated $11,000 to endow a new exhibits awards category at the World's Fair of Money. Part of the money will also be used to support the ANA Library Fund.
