Many historic figures are often forgotten from the Civil War era. One of them is Gen. Philip Sheridan, who pursued Robert E. Lee's Confederate forces and eventually forced him to surrender.

In 1861, the New Orleans Mint produced half-dollar coinage for three separate governments. One of those governments included the Confederate States of America, which produced four coins.
