Candidates for the American Numismatic Association (ANA) Board of Governors will participate in a question-and-answer forum at the Town Hall Meeting scheduled for the ANA’s National Money Show 2001 in Salt Lake City, Utah, March 8-10.

Each of the candidates at the forum will be given an opportunity to make an opening statement before questions are accepted from the hobby press and the floor. Candidates who are unable to attend the convention in Salt Lake City can designate a representative to make opening remarks on their behalf.

The forum will be held in Room 151G of the Salt Palace Convention Center, 100 S. West Temple, beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 9, and concluding at 7 p.m.

This fourth, consecutive candidate forum for ANA Board hopefuls underscores the ANA’s continuing effort to hold Town Hall meetings at its conventions to allow for an open exchange of ideas for the betterment of the Association and the hobby.

The terms of all nine offices of the Board of Governors will expire in 2001. Those elected will be installed at the ANA’s 110th Anniversary Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, August 8-12, 2001, and will compose the Board of Governors for the next two years.

Nominees must be members who are entitled to hold office under the ANA Bylaws. Those exempted are associate and honorary members, member clubs, and members under the age of 18. To be eligible for the office of president or vice president, a member must have served at least one term as governor. No member can serve on the Board more than 10 years.

To qualify as a candidate for office, a member must receive at least five (5) nominations from member clubs in good standing and at least five (5) nominations from individual members in good standing. Nominators should include their ANA number to facilitate the recording of nominations.

An ANA member cannot nominate himself/herself or a number of candidates for any office in excess of the number to be elected. Thus, members and clubs can nominate only one candidate for president and one for vice president, and no more than seven candidates for governor.

Nominations must be postmarked or hand-delivered no earlier than December 1, 2000, and no later than March 31, 2001. Each qualified nominee will be notified of his or her nominations and must submit their acceptance or refusal thereof in writing on or before March 31, 2001. No nominee may accept a nomination for more than one elective office. A list of nominees who have received the required number of nominations, and their resultant actions, will be published in The Numismatist beginning in March.As in the past, candidate biographies will be included in The Numismatist as well as accompany the ballots. Members eligible to vote will receive their ballots by mail in June.
