The Las Vegas Numismatic Society (LVNS) held its 56th annual Christmas Banquet Seminar, Officer Installation and silent youth benefit auction on Saturday evening, Dec. 14, 2013, in the Red Rock Room at Sam's Town Gambling Hall in Las Vegas, Nev.

One-hundred and eight club members and guests attended the 2013 gala buffet dinner event. ANA President Walter Ostromecki was the invited special guest and keynote speaker. Ostromecki spoke on the educational value of ANA membership and the experience of collectors of all ages attending the Association's annual premier learning enrichment event, Summer Seminar in Colorado Springs.

LVNS President, Joe Cavallaro commented: "We are most fortunate to have the ANA President Ostromecki participating because of his passionate and energetic youth focus. He's helped develop our twice yearly show's successful youth outreach programs and activities over the past several years. As a result our club has created a committee, chaired by Ed Smith, to help grow youth numismatic involvement and membership. Walt's generous participation this evening's seminar has netted one lucky club YN a full all-expense paid scholarship to the 2014 ANA Summer Seminar."

The after dinner festivities included: installation of the 2014 club officers by LVNS past president Bill Zell, a special musical treat by longtime strip sax player Joe Brown, a numismatic prize raffle and finally an awards presentation hosted by both Joe Cavallaro and Walter Ostromecki. Joe presented club member, Ed Smith, with the club's 2013 outstanding service award.

Ostromecki presented the club officers of the LVNS with the ANA Numismatic Point of Light Certificate, in honor of their ongoing generosity and commitment to advancing numismatics in Nevada as well as enriching the total numismatic experience of others both young and old through outreach education at their twice yearly shows.

In recognition for being the catalyst and driving force behind the clubs success and growth as well as coin show chairman and club president for several years, Ostromecki bestowed an ANA Presidential Award upon Joe Cavallaro. The entire audience stood and applauded a stunned and speechless Joe upon receiving this high ANA honor.

Joe made a special announcement before the evening's festivities adjourned. "I was going to wait a couple of months before telling you all the good news, but there will be no better time than this evening. Because our annual show needs to grow, I have just signed a contract with the Rivera Hotel to begin holding our coins shows in 2015. They have given us a special $27 room rate, a much larger bourse room for the same price we're paying now at the Palace Station, and guaranteed all show attendees free parking. You can't beat that!"

The LVNS meets monthly at the Charleston Heights Art Center, 800 Brush Street, Las Vegas, NV. Dues are $20 a year for adults and $5 a year for youth under 18. For more information email Joe Cavallaro, LVNS President:
