National Coin Week events at the Money Museum

Join us for FREE ADMISSION on April 27 and the chance to win cash and prizes as we celebrate National Coin Week. Museum hours are 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

 

This year's National Coin Week theme is: "Buffalo Nickel Centennial: Black Diamond Shines Again." Come learn more about this iconic piece of American currency, and get a chance to see one of the rarest nickels in the world, the 1913 Liberty Head "V" Nickel.

Minting the 2013 National Coin Week token

 

Doug Mini Mint

Noon - 4p.m.: Live coin-making demonstrations will be given at the Mini-Mint in the museum's lower gallery. Visitors age 12 and under will take home a National Coin Week medallette struck in the Mini-Mint. Demonstrations will begin at noon, 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. 

 

Hobo nickel demonstrations

 

Adam Leech

Noon - 4 p.m.: Local artist Adam Leech will give demonstrations of hobo nickel carving, turning a buffalo nickel into a piece of art. Leech will also screen the trailer of his upcoming documentary, "A Nickel and a Nail." Demonstrations will begin at the top of each hour.   

 

Take a KidsZone class

KidsZone classes are offered for free each month to help children ages 4-12 learn more about money. This month's class is all about the Federal Reserve. We'll also have fun activities for the kids that day that ties in to the Buffalo nickels theme of National Coin Week.
