Fanton Resigns From ANA Board of Governors

COLORADO SPRINGS – Brian Fanton has announced his resignation from the AmericanNumismatic Association Board of Governors, effective April 1, citing the need to attendto family matters.Fanton, of Hiawatha, Iowa, was appointed to the Board in October 2005. Inaccordance with prior practice, Fanton’s resignation will be submitted for action by theBoard at its next, regularly scheduled meeting in August at the World’s Fair of Money inMilwaukee. He also has not accepted his nomination to run for a seat on the Board ofGovernors for the 2007-09 term.Fanton, a numismatic scholar and life member of the ANA, founded theHiawatha Coin Club and owns B.E’s Coins/Hiawatha Coin Shop. He’s collected coins formore than 50 years and has been a full-time dealer since 1999.“Brian is a dedicated numismatist and educator who clearly loves the hobby,”said ANA President William H. Horton, Jr. “We wish him the best in the future.”Fanton ran for a two-year term as governor during the July 2005 elections, polling4,027 votes from the ANA membership. As the next-highest vote-getter, he was next inline to fill the vacancy created when Walter Ostromecki Jr. was removed from theBoard in October 2005. Fanton/Page 2Fanton grew up in Waterloo and graduated from Waterloo High School in 1963.A six-year Navy veteran, he served in Vietnam and was later awarded a NationalDefense Medal, the Vietnam War Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He makespresentations on numismatics to more than 1,000 students annually.
