Update on that 1981-s "Silver" quarter

| Adrien

Conclusion: It is not silver.I took my 2006-D Satin Finish 1c in the same type of pcgs holder and I weighed it and found it weighed 33.36 grams. I then subtracted 2.5 grams (weight of post-1982 cents) and it came out to be 30.86 for the weight of the holder. I took the weight of my coin in the holder and found it weighed 36.56 grams. 36.56-30.86 ended up being 5.7 grams.Upon inspection with a stereo microscope, I was able to find tiny amounts of copper peeking through the "cracks" in the rimming.Thank you for your help,

A Small Question Regarding 1981 Proofs

| Adrien

I was taking a look through my coins the other day when I happened to catch a glimpse of the edging on the 1981-S type 1 quarter. The Quarter's edge looks a lot like the edging on my MS Mercury dime and my AU 1906-O Barber half. I'm not sure what to think of it. I don't think a silver 1981 set was made, but I looked at the others in the set and the SBA$1, 50c, and 10c. They were all clad. I would really like to know if I am just misinformed or if all quarters in that set are silver.Any help would do.

My two cents on... 2 cents!

| Adrien

For those of you who don't know, the 2 cent piece was struck from 1864 to 1872. It was 95% copper and it was 23 mm in diameter.
