Nice day for downtown today, first time in a while. Delicious Oktoberfest lunch, served by my favorite waiter. And of course, a visit to the coin shop.
Good trip downtown yesterday. Stopped at the coin shop after admiring the many lovely Morgan dollars in their window. After seeing so many Mint State coins, I saw something different in the shop.
Yesterday during my downtown trip, I stopped at the coin shop. I've already commented on the lovely sets I saw, but there was so much more to admire and enjoy. Another window held a selection of Morgan silver dollars, all mint state, all beautiful. There were many San Francisco issues--of course there were two 1881-S dollars--and a few New Orleans coins that looked pristine and glowing.
There was a time when I'd attend the FUN show every year. I always enjoyed going. I have often said that it's worth a trip to a major show to see exhibits, sets, and rarities that the average collector doesn't see every day.
Once upon a time, there was a collector who loved Morgan dollars. She spent much time building her set, picking out beautiful and choice coins with a minimum of bagmarks and a maximum of eye appeal. Over the years, she had every coin except the 1895, 1889-CC and 1893-S.
Wonderful day holiday shopping downtown! Weather was OK, decorations everywhere, shopping hectic. Delicious lunch, of course, served by my favorite waiter.
Morgan dollars have been popular with collectors for many years. There are many available in Mint State or close to it. Assembling a set is quite an accomplishment, with or without the 1895-P proof coin. But because it's such a big set, Morgans can be collected in different ways, such as a year set.
Today I went downtown for some good shopping, the Farmer's Market, and a delicious lunch served by my favorite waiter. A stop at the coin shop was on my list of things to do.
As a longtime Morgan dollar fan, I have long considered the 1895 to be a dream coin. Each time one is offered for sale, I study the photo and descriptions carefully. And eat my heart out.
