2020 W Nickel?
In 2019, the US mint decided to include special 2019 W mintmarked pennies in their proof, uncirculated, and silver proof sets that they offer yearly to commentate the 110th anniversary of Aberham Lincoln. There was an uncirculated version in the uncirculated set, a proof version in the proof set, and a reverse proof version in the silver set. I purchased the proof set last year specifically for the W penny, because as you know, I like cents, and thought this would make a nice edition to my collection. I thought this was going to be a one time thing with the mint releasing a W mintmarked coin. Today, I received the US mint catolog for this year, I looked through it, and everything seemed normal, except the basketball commemorative, which looks pretty good in my opinion. Everything was going good until something caught my eye. They are offering a 2020 W nickel with the sets this year. In my opinion, this is kind of ruined the 2019 W cent. I liked it because it was unique, the only circulating coin with a W mintmark, and the mint had a good reason to make this coin. It seems like they have no event pertaining to the nickel to make this, and the only reason they had is to continue the W set. This will probably lower the price of the 2019 W cent because now it isn't as unique. All in all, I think that the 2020 W nickel was uncalled for, but a good decision by the mint to sell more sets, because the W cent really enticed more people to buy them.
