1923 PEACE DOLLAR VAM-1AA

Coins-United States | Longstrider

At the risk of boring people with my articles on Peace Dollar VAMs in general and extra hair specifically, I am writing today on another one. The 1923 VAM 1AA is commonly referred to as an Extra Hair Elite 30 Peace Dollar VAM. I can’t help myself. This is an amazing example of one and I would like to share it with you.

POW AND ITALIAN SERVICE UNIT CHITS of WWII

Exonumia | Longstrider

I have only been collecting POW chits for about a year. I find them amazing bits of history. My interest grew out of my MPC studies. Since my dad served in Italy during WWII and we are of Italian descent, I try to concentrateon that area but also collect others that interred Italian soldiers as well as Italian Service Units, “ISU”.

MY OPINION. I COULD BE WRONG

Coins-United States | Longstrider

After I read the excellent blog by I.R. Bama about the artist of the reverse on the new Type 2 gold eagle I kind of fell in love with the design. That being said I went ahead and bought a one ounce coin. I chose the one ounce option to get the largest visual of the eagle. I considered sending it into NGC for grading and protection. Really in this case it was mostly for protection and authentication of it being gold and not a counterfeit. I considered getting a signed label by Jennie Norris as the designer. I checked out NGC's site to see how much extra that is. To my surprise I found out it is impossible for me to get that option???

TWO DISTINGUISHED PEACE DOLLAR VAMS

National Coin Week | Longstrider

I just picked up a new, to me, Peace Dollar VAM and realized I have fallen behind in showing them off. Therefore I would like to do this quick blog to remedy that problem. The first is a 1922-S VAM 2B1. I don’t have a lot to say about either of these other than they are very cool. I don’t want to get too much into the technical stuff on a Sunday.

MPC EXPANSION VICTORY NOTE

Paper Money-World | Longstrider

I would like to share this note I just picked up from a great seller on the Bay. It is the One Peso Silver Certificate VICTORY note. The 1944 VICTORY SERIES NO. 66. This is an overprint to celebrate the liberation of the Philippians from the Japanese troops. It was printed in the US and issued in the Philippians. The word VICTORY was overprinted on the back. The notes were very important to the Islands as they had been forced to use Japanese Occupation Currency. I have a small collection of the Allied Nations counterfeit notes of the Japanese Occupation notes. I thought this would make a nice addition to this collection. The back of the note has an image of Apolinario Mabine. Besides a huge list of accomplishments for the Philippians and Her people, he was the first Prime Minister. The note certifies that one peso in silver pesos or legal tender currency of the United States has been deposited in the Treasury of the Philippines. This note measures about 6 ¼” X 2 ¾”. Most of the notes were destroyed after WWII but some can still be found. Thanks for reading this short blog. Feel free to comment.

1994 STRUCK THROUGH SAE

Coins-United States | Longstrider

I picked up something different the other day that I would like to share here. I saw this at my coin dealer and had to have it, a 1994 SAE or Silver American Eagle. What makes this uncirculated coin special is it exhibits a great “Strike Through” error across the date.
