Recently we seem to be looking at currency serial numbers. I would like to add to the discussion with a new purchase I received the other day. A lot of our members are aware that I collect MPC or Military Payment Certificates. I subscribe to an MPC newsletter called the Gram. Two weeks ago someone listed these two notes shown below for sale and I scooped them up.
I would like to piggy back on AC Coins blog and bring up another feature that is used as anti-counterfeiting on my MPC notes. Angel, yesterday was showing us a note he has snagged with little animals stamped on it. I will be talking about a feature our government added to these notes on purpose.
I have seen several blogs about different “holy grail” coins or currency. I thought I would show you one of mine. Last week I was lucky enough to win an auction lot at Heritage. If you have never been to one of their auctions you should check them out at ha.com. They have quality items and many, many auctions.
The latest addition to my growing MPC collection was a birthday present from my wife, thanks babe. In the photos below you can view my new Series 641, $10 Third Printing MPC. It was graded by PMG as a 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ or Exceptional Paper Quality. It has a Schwan number of S887-3. The serial number is kind of cool as well. The Plate Position is 24.
Well, I'm sitting here at home wondering when, if, my Wi-Fi will come back up. The same problem occurred all day Saturday. So, I thought I would share this new piece of MPC history I received in the mail yesterday. I have no idea when this will show up on our blog pages so be kind. If you look at the photos below you may see something that you haven't seen before.
I just noticed it has been quite a while since my last blog. I guess it's time for a new one. I have a dozen or so new Peace Dollar VAMs to share but I believe I will take a different path today. I have been getting back into Military Payment Certificates, MPC, again and would like to share some with you. My last blog on MPC's was about Chief Hollow Horn Bear. A few people here have been asking what we collect. Here is an example of something other than Peace Dollar VAMs that I collect when I see a nice one. This is my newest example of a Military Payment Certificate or MPC. This is, in my opinion, one of the most outstanding MPC we made. In fact the entire Series 692 has been described as the "Most American" of all the different series of MPC's.
