The 1938 D Buffalo Nickle

Coins | Mike B

Hi everyone. Did you ever buy a coin ,token ,or medal that caught your eye. I think we all have done that. Well I was walking past the post office many years ago. I was passing a jewelry store. It looked nice and to my surprise this store had a glass case with coins in it.. So I went in and started to look. One case that's all he had. And something did catch my eye. A 1938D Nickel. It has this beautiful gold tone on it. Now if you have read some of my blogs you know that I have been lucky in picking out the right coin. What is The right coin. Well this was truly what many call the American coin. It's like buying stock. Does this have potential I thought so. So I asked the owner how much are you looking for that nickle. To my surprise he said seven dollars. I said it's a good looking coin then I said to myself shutup! I said I'll take it. I knew it would grade high. And it was the last in a series of wonderful coins.. So I purchased this wonderful coin and went home. I filled out a form for NGC and sent it away. Well I was lucky. It graded a MS 67. I said I can probably turn this over for a nice price. Now I don't sell my coins. But I wanted to get a price on what they were going for. Not even seventy five dollars. I couldn't figure out why so low the coin has everything going for it. Then I realized it was the last coin in the series. People were hoarding them. That has to be it. No that wasn't it. So I put it away and would check every so often. Well i was watching a T.V. show this morning and that seven dollar coin has reached a price I couldn't believe. It was in the hundreds. I had seen it in a magazine last year and it has started to move. I was lucky again. I was right about the coin but it's time had not come. This set I believe is one of the best sets created by the United States. America's coin. Frasier*s design was beautiful. The set is still searched out today. If you were in Europe and found one you would know this coin was made in America. Over the years when I see a jewelry store selling some coins I would go in. But be carful. They clean there coins like there diamonds. Some also make jewelry out of them . I once thought of selling this coin no more. Another lucky buy. You can find coins not only in a coin store but some stores that sell fine items. So keep your eyes open . Good coins are everywere. You will never know when you might get lucky. I hope you enjoyed this and always keep in mind that store sells coin! One more thing eBay has jewelry stores. I have seen many and yes they also sell coins. So I hope like me you all get lucky. Sometimes they don't know what they have. Sometimes they do. Lots of luck to all. And a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. Enjoy your dinner and the leftovers for the week!!

It's That Time Of Year Again

Coins | Mike B

Hi everyone!!! Well the holidays are upon us. I know from last experience that I won't get what I want. That's ok it's the theme is about giving. But you know there is a coin out there your looking for. I left it up to my wife one year and I should of asked for a tie!! That's ok it's the thought. But what if you put some money aside for a gift that you want. A coin. That's right a coin. Not a game or clothes were collectors. This is the first year I don't have one in mind. It could be an Indian head cent in an old rattler slab. I like those. Good not in the budget but it may be in yours. There is nothing wrong buying yourself a gift. Think of it as a treat. As long as you take care of those on your list first. Santa can even carrie it in his pocket. There is a lot to think of how do you narrow it down? Many ways. First and foremost the coin has to be in your budget. There are many coins i want but Santa's pockets are not that big .. There all out there now. Or a box of cents. That's always a nice gift. Or treat yourself to a slabed W quarter or raw. The prices have dropped on the early ones. Here's one I like starting a new set in a Dansco Album or a Whitman . That will keep you busy . I could think of allot of coins. I know you want to know how will I treat myself this year. As I said before I'm still not sure. I know it will be one coin. No not that last coin the mint came out with. Not even a thought. I want a wish book. A book you go through and wish for any coin in it. No not that either. I do know there is a coin out there with my name on it. I don't think I will get it. If I could and I have done it before work in a soup kitchen. No it's not in any book. Has no monetary value. But when you put that Turkey leg on a plate the smile you get back is worth all the coins in the world. That's a gift that keeps on giving. It makes you think how lucky we are to have what we have. Or maybe a book about coins. What do you think? Thanks you better start thinking!! Mike Sorry I hit draft by accident anyone know how to get rid of it?PS. Yes Virginia There is A Santa Claus!!!

2019 Enhanced Reverse Proof. On Sale November 14th.

Coins | Mike B

Hi everyone. Tomorrow the United States Mint will play a game. See if you can buy this coin. Why wouldn't we. Well the mint has done this many times before. I suggest most of us get frustrated now. Now this is a special coin. They all are. But this has a mintage of only 30,000 and limited to one per household. Don't get be wrong but I do like the coin. What I can't figure out is that 156 are on pre-sale on Ebay. There all in o.g.p. The set below is a picture taken from that site. The asking price. 1999.00. The lowest is 262.00. Actually the lowest is 65.00 from the mint. My first question. How did these people on eBay get this coin before release date. Some state they have sold thirty already some say last one. Why can't we do this. Another question. How will these grade? Most pre- sales are slabed already. One is shown. Sellout but if course. I say ten to twelve minutes.. Company's have employees calling for them. The race is on. Everything will be in the timing. Will you try to purchase this?. From were I'm sitting there gone already except maybe a 100 or more. We know retailers are catered to. The regular collector will be shut out once more I believe. I will try. Stop watch set. Set up. Under four seconds to go I will place an order. By the time I get it in my bag time should be up and it should go through.. Then again I'm seriously doubting it. I do hope the collectors win out. I would be happy to know someone who gets one. It should be called a contest. That's what it is. And who knows the future of this coin. The Congratulations Set of 2016 has the lowest mintage of 5600. But that's only a plain Eagle. If you don't get through tomorrow will you spend all your Christmas money from a retailer. I wont. Is it a gimmick? . It's the mint make up your own mind on that one. With the number of collectors and the mintage of this coin you can see the odds are against us. But try . Have a family member ready on the phone and you ready on the site. You never know. You just might be the winner. Don't bother asking the mint how sellers have already sold some in their pre-sale you will get in sorry I don't have the answer to that!!. The frustration is enormous. You feel that the mint was against you. Your wrong. It's against most of all with this one. I believe the last one to sell out of twelve minutes was the Truman Coin and Chronicles set. It has the first reverse proof of the series. So good luck tomorrow I hope we all get one. Some things I said about the mint week harsh. That's right but it's all true. That's the sad part. If they made it two per household we would have a better chance. So give it the old college try. Be the only one on your block to own the 2019 American Silver Eagle one ounce Enhanced Reverse Proof. Only 65.95. Thanks for reading and good luck. Mike
