Coin Roll Hunting

| ShriekenGriffon

I want to write a blog today about coin roll hunting. As a young numismatist, I have a lot of time, but not a lot of money. So coin roll hunting is a good part of the hobby to get into for me. However most banks don’t let you exchange money for a box of, let us say cents, if you do not have an account at that particular bank. Here is where I am at a disadvantage. The bank my parents use because it has lower fees or whatever (and also unfortunately low interest) is 30 minutes. So most of the time I cannot get coins to search through because my mom only goes at the beginning of the month and I can’t drive yet. So, this whole is a dilemma for me. Luckily, at the 4th bank we stopped at nearby, the tellers let me get some coins.

AMAZING COIN SHOP FIND!!!

| ShriekenGriffon

Wow! It's been a Month since I posted last but this will be a pretty exciting blog! I went nack to the coin shop I wrote about last time on a $25 birthday shopping spree. I found many cool things, but will not be listing them here. However, you can check out the video I made at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qd0rwZeubOc Back to the coin, I was have gotten an interest in old Canadian large cents so when I saw a 1858 Canadian large cent in the 50 cent bin, it caught my eye, I quickly scooped it up. Later , at home when I looked up the grade and value, it came out to a VG-8, but a value of about $75!!!! It made me very excited and now I also have a cool coin for my collection!I hope you enjoyed and have a nice day!

Coin Shop Experience

| ShriekenGriffon

Hey y'all! I am back today to share my coin shop finds, or maybe just the experience if it gets a bit too long and will do the actual coins later, from yesterday Oct. the 4th. This was only the third coin shop I've been to, and third visit to one, so I was still a little uncomfortable sitting in there looking through the coins and talking to the men working there. This was my first time at this one and it was a bit closer and a lot bigger than the previous two I've been to.

The Battle of the Falkland Islands

| ShriekenGriffon

Today, I will be giving a history lesson pertaining to a coin such as the article I did on the Great Fire of London. Today's coin is a 2014 bi-metal coin issued by the Pobjoy Mint on behalf of the Falkland Islands to commemorate the 1914 battle in the 1st World War. This battle is titled the Battle of the Falkland Islands which took place in the Atlantic Ocean which is where the Islands (I thought it was in the Pacific for the longest time) are located.

The Great Fire of London

| ShriekenGriffon

Today I will be talking about the Great Fire of London and the circulating commemorative coin Great Britain made to commemorate its 350th anniversary. The coin has a face value of 2 pounds and as I just said, a circulating commemorative. It is a bi-metallic coin with the outside ring being nickel-brass and the center being cupro-nickel. On the obverse is a Queen who has been on the obverse for 60+ years and the reverse depicts London on fire in the background, while in the foreground is a bay or port with ships in it. The coin itself is not too much to talk about so of course, I will delve into the history for you guys.
