If you are a member of the ANA, then it is highly likely that you are familiar with the Guide Book of United States Coins, the famous Red Book, and the Handbook of United States Coins, the Blue Book. These books have been with us in annual additions for over 70 years and most of us have owned multiple copies as the new editions emerge.

The Golden Pavilion

When I visited Japan back in 1976, I picked up this beautiful medal in Kyoto Japan. The medal depicts the Golden Pavilion on the obverse and the reverse is blank except for tiny Japanese characters in a box which read " Kinkaku-Ji", which is the name used by the Japanese for the Golden Pavilion. The Medal is signed by M. Sawano, possibly Mizue Sawano, but I am not sure. Mizue is a Japanese female artist well known for her paintings.

The Most Beautiful

Coin that I have seen in my lifetime. Is being sold by A. H. Baldwin and Sons, a London firm located at 399 Strand, London WC2R 0LX, UK. Per their catalog " The mighty Chimera appears on this silver stater from the Greek city of Sikyon, c. 335-330 BC. The Chimera bore the traits of a lion, goat and snake. Sightings of the mythical beast were said to be an omen of natural disasters in the ancient world... This piece is coin #28 in our Winter Fixed Price List, £5,650"

A late addition to the 2018 Mint Product Line

On December 14th, the US Mint will release the first of the American Innovation Dollars. There will be a total of 57 Dollars in the series and they will be released at a rate of 4 per year, starting in 2019. The 2018 issue will be a general release not tied to a specific State or Territory.

Mokie's Essential Man-Corner

I have recently taken a corner of our sunroom and turned it into my little personal numismatic museum and office. The corner is very cozy and is just right for the kind of display that I want. There is a small bookshelf with items on display and there are the most essential books on the bottom shelf . The wall has some coins and stamps displayed and my computer is setup so that I can blog with ease.
