Unusual Error

| user_25416

Hi!

I found this in a jar with a few other dollar coins. It looks like a cud, but the rim and the reverse are unaffected, and the field is not raised. Does anyone know what this might be?

Thanks!

Struck through. is my guess.

I don't know, I'm thinking it isn't PMD because of how circumscribed the area is. I'd show it to a dealer..... I favor struck through error

Certainly seems usage and the passage of time, as agreed with Mike. So interesting though, never give up seeking further...

Not a cud. Just worn out from usage.

I agree with Long Beard....it's definitely not a cud.

Being that the rim is sharp, I'd rule out cud and lean towards a possible strike through. Perhaps grease?

That was the other possibility I considered. Usually, with a strike through, you can see it on the reverse, though.
