1955 Myanmar (Burma) 1 Pya Coin
The multi-language Kingdom of ancient Burma is a land of glorious temples and lordship houses built many centuries ago. Thru a long period of time under British Commonwealth domination it became independent in 1948. Then in 1989 it adopted its new name the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
The actual currency of Myanmar is the "Kyat" or kiat and its subunit is known as the "Pya" as it goes to the equivalency of:1 Kyat = 100 Pya.
This nicely minted coin brings us the "chinthe" or half-lion, half-dragon image protector of the Burmese doorways and sacred spaces.
Traditionally carved and minted in the country's main spoken language this coin is a magnificent addition to my collection.
In my own words.
