Not Coins

| user_5629

I have slowly began to collect coins, and I have found it is very fun, yet takes a lot of my time too. My wife and daughter jokingly call me a "dork". But at the same time, my daughter enjoy's going through everything I have and trying to wrap her head around the fact that ALL of these coins have some type of history tied to them...wether it be "who's pocket was that in, or where do you think that coin has traveled to"? great questions, that I can't answer...none the less, my wife keeps asking "what are those gonna be worth in the future?" My only response is...."don't know, face value to someone who knows nothing, maybe more to the educated". so with that in mind, I started collecting something she can relate too....precious metal...mainly silver. She can understand the market for that, it's not that she doesn't care about coins, she just doesn't care to follow me in my collections. I can only hope as my collections grow, she will not just give them away so I am leaving notes about what I have and where she can take them if GOD forbid, something were to happen to me.... anyway, enough about that, this is a new collection of silver and gold..... 5 one ounce bars of silver 1 two ounce bar of silver 1 five ounce bar of silver 1 two gram "thumbnail" size gold This collection will grow, kids really like to see and hold silver and gold. Seems like they can relate to that easier than a coin, knowing both are worth something, but can't wrap their head around the history of a coin. I hate the plastic world!! Will update all collections when stuff comes in or I find new.

The beginning (true first collection) I forgot!!

| user_5629

After I posted my mint proof set collection, which I thought got me into collecting coins, I called my mom to see when I could get together with her and grandma, (grandma getting very old) to see what they have. Mom asked me to remember a story I told her when I came home from a weekend visit with grandpa, (he passed several years back). After some discussion, I did remember.....long story short, born and raised in a small town in northern MN. Grandpa was a talker and when I did spend with time he and grandma, we went and visited all of their friends, because that's what they did, (they were OLD!!) any way, way back when I was like 5 or 6, we went and visited "an old friend" ( will never remember his name) he gave me a real big coin, and I noticed it had my birth year on it, I had no clue what it was, and to be honest, didn't care nor give it a second thought until now! I have a small box of "memories"...in it I found that old coin (forgot to mention grandma took it from me for safe keeping!!) along with a penny, a dime, a nickel, a quarter, and the half dollar, all with my birth year. Grandma found every coin of my birth year and put them in the hard plastic protector......the large coin on its own was an Eisenhower dollar from someone I only met once! I guess as I sit here and post this on my account, I now realize, coins have been a bigger part of my life than I thought, it brings back some very good memories! I also remember when grandpa came to visit after that, he would always have Susan B. in his pocket for me too, and yes..... I still have them

Morgan Silvers

| user_5629

Again, wife found this at an estate sale, so she picked it up for me....without my knowledge. This is my first one and will forever be my pride and joy (because she thought of me). It may not be real special but it is now.....1882 Morgan, no mint mark, ungraded, but looks fabulous to me. I told her I was going to start collecting these when I get my silver eagles caught up to date. On a side note, was speaking with my mother the other day and found out she and my grandmother have a rather extensive collection themselves when it comes to the Morgans. They both told me that I am more than welcome to have a look and maybe, just maybe they will help me expand my new collection. Now I just need the time to drive 650 miles and start dealing with family.

Eisenhower Dollar

| user_5629

My wife found this at an estate sale.....1971(s) Proof Eisenhower Dollar in what appears to be the original mint package. No lid on the box, coin is in plastic protective sleeve, no COA. I need to do more research on these but why not start another collection.......just because.

Mint Proof sets.

| user_5629

Just adding this because I forgot. Have Mint Proof sets starting with 1999 up to present date. My mother started the mint proof statehood collection for all of us kids (even though we are all 38+). She turned them over to us several years back. This is what actually got me started collecting. I have been keeping the ball rolling and am getting them every year. My wife, went to an estate sale the other day and found a 1995 and 1979 Mint proof set all wrapped up nice and neat. I now have those too. Now I guess I need to go back and fill in the missing dates!!!! :) Bummer for me right!!
