Haiku in Numismatics (Humor)

| I. R. Bama

One of our younger friends inspired me to write this haiku. Haiku as we know is a form of poetry from the culture of Japan.

It has three lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second has seven syllables and the third has five syllables.

But, did you know? Haiku is a short terse form of poetry and originally was a part of another longer form poem type called Hokko according to the Encyclopedia Britanica. It's an interesting article to be found at www.Britanica.com/art/ haiku. Do take the opportunity to read it!

And now, my Haiku:

While I want that flowing Hair half Dollar... Embrace the Tao Willow bends to the seasons New coins must wait now Ok so this Japanese poetry form fused with Chinese Spiritualism may be an affront to some people of the world in academic circles, but it is part of my spirituality and I respect the form of poetry as well.

Again, well said. In the words of the great, Rodney King, "Why can't we all just get along?"

Interested. Since my niece collects old Japanese coinage, the tiny silver rectangles, and knowing a little of their culture, I wonder if there's a correlation between a haiku and the coinage designs?

LB, IR - I don't think there is any real correlation between haiku and Japanese coinage. I do know that haiku's can be very bawdy like limericks and that they are so popular in Japan that national contests are held for the best haiku written in any given year. If you want to learn a lot about Japanese rectangular gin and kin coins, check out this article by one of my current Numismatic Heroes, Lianna Spurrier. https://coinweek.com/world-coins/coinweek-iq-japanese-bar-money/

Now that is a quite interesting question.... I wonder if Mokie knows? He's our source for that kind of information

The essence of my blog is 17 syllables. That should be an ANA record!
