Coin Collecting for Me so Far

Coins-United States | 20XX

Hello all, I am not new to collecting coins, as I have been searching through bank rolls for silver dimes for 3 or 4 years now, but I have just now begun to buy coins.  I love silver and the Walking Liberty design, so I have been focusing on Silver Eagles and Walking Liberty halves.  However, I would also like to look into acquiring some gold bullion and Morgan dollars.

Sounds like you are off to a great start! Keep up the good work and keep searching! Mercury Dimes are a favorite for me.

I really should update this or make a new one, because I have acquired a good many decent coins since this post, and mercury dimes are cool, especially when you find one in a roll.

Welcome! Sounds like you have a nice collection going already. Please be VERY careful when and where you buy coins and bullion. Counterfeits are everywhere. They are very good and fool even respected long time dealers. It doesn't matter if the are in a slab or not. Chinese fakes are state sponsored. Do your homework. Read everything you can and find a trusted coin dealer in your area. I would suggest you, wait for it everyone, stay away from eBay... Just my opinion. I could be wrong.. One last thing. If you are going for higher grade coins and bullion, watch out for cleaned coins too!!

Thanks! What should I look for to find cleaned silver coins? I know about pennies, but that's it.

Walking Liberty halves are beautiful. Good luck with your collecting.

Thank you! Other than the Saint Gaudens design perhaps, Liberty Walking is the best!

Spot price is the price of silver in a coin. Figure it out by multiplying a Coins Actuall Silver Weight (ASW) by the price of silver. ASW for a Morgan is .77344. multiply that by the cost of an ounce of silver (right now it is $14.67, but earlier in the year it was around $16.50) to get the current spot price of $11.34

Thanks! That's worth looking into.

Cool. Hope you can find some good Walking Libertys! I won 7 of them at my coin club auction, all in grades fine except for one that was in VF.

My problem is that I only care about higher grade coins, for better or worse, but that's really neat!

Thanks!

Look for your nearest coin shop, and ask for raw Morgans, they usually have a bin in the front, or the back where you can buy some nice, but not too nice, examples of beautiful Morgans, all common dates, but close to spot price.

My grandfather gave our family 131? circulated morgans and peace dollars, so I'm talking about mint state ones. Thanks for the advice! And what is spot price?
