How Laura Gardin Fraser Won the Washington Quarter Design in 1932

Coins | CheerioCoins

I was researching Great Depression Era Coinage for a article that I was doing for the YN literary contest and stumbled across a story worth sharing. Today I will talk about how Laura Gardin Fraser won the Washington Quarter deign contest, how John Flanagan's design got minted instead, and how she got her well deserved deign back on the 2022 quarter!

2019 W Quarters A Review, Guide, and Some Facts

| CheerioCoins

I was looking back at an old blog of mine I posted way back in July of 2021 titled "West Point Mint National Park Quarters". This was actually the second blog I ever wrote on this site and some of you may remember it. It was a short 7 sentence blog about West Point Mint quarters that I found rather lacking of information. “My New Gang of Buffalos”

Coins | CheerioCoins

A few days ago I visited Florida to visit my grandma. It was only a short visit but when we were looking for things to do. That's when we saw a coin shop that was open nearby! We drove over to a musty looking build that had not just coins but also antiques. As we looked around there were mostly slabbed coins in a glass case. We got to know the owner a little bit and he gave advice and told stories about coin collecting. He was mainly selling and mainly collected silver. That's when he gave me a stack of dateless Buffalo nickels and a Type 1 1913-D Buffalo nickel as we'll. He told me he got each one for 6 cents and that they were inexpensive to him so he gave them to me and my brother.
