YN Auction Review #1, January 2022

| CheerioCoins

As said in my last blog I will be doing a review of the Monthly YN Auctions. If you check it out every month there are 3 new coins that if you are a YN you can bid on with YN dollars. Today is my first review of the YN auction I will still review it, share my thoughts, give a price average, and some general facts about these coins. This auction I liked everything so that's good for the first review. Hope you enjoy!

The first coin or Lot #1 is a 1897-S Barber Dime that is Almost Good. This coin has no reserve for the amount of YN dollars it can be sold for. I like the Barber dime series and I feel like it's not very appreciated. Personally I like this coin but didn't bid on it. It is worth about $15.00 dollar in G4 in my December 2021 Greysheet. The designer is Charles E. Barber and the coin was named after himself. The coin is composed of %90 silver and 10% copper.

The second coin or Lot #2 is a 1957 (Year 32; Hirohito) Japan 100 Yen, Choice Almost Uncirculated. The reserve is 25 YN dollars which I think is good. Personally I really like this coin because 1: It's in a great grade and 2:It has a beautiful design. I also didn't bid on it but I think I regret that because it probably didn't go for much and as I said it's a great coin. 100 Yen is equal to $0.88 but the coins is worth about $4.50. I think the main reason is because it is yet another silver coin!(%60 silver, %30 copper and %10 Zinc.)

The final and third coin or Lot #3 is the only lot I bided on which is the1981-S (Type 1) Susan B. Anthony Dollar, PCGS Deep Cameo Proof-69. This coin is very pretty and would look great in my collection. Sadly I didn't win it and it went to someone else. The reserve is 35 YN dollars which is kinda low but the reserve doesn't really matter. I just really love the look of this coin even though I'm not really a fan of the Susan B. Anthony Dollars. The designer is Frank Gasparri and it is composed of %75 Copper and %25 Nickel over pure Copper center. Greysheet says $3.25 for the proof but that's all proofs so I searched up the coin and it was about $11.00 to $16.00 but I don't know the exact price cause no one will sell a coin for the exact same price as everyone else the price always will vary.

Anyway one more thing I wanted to mention to YN's who don't read The Numismatist the YN Literary contest is going on right now where you write a article(s) (3 Max) that show your numismatic knowledge on a coin/money related topic. Each one is named after the judge of the certain competition. There is the Bill Fivaz (pronounced Fi-Va. I know this because I know him!) Young Numismatist Literary Award for ages 8-12 so I will be competing in this one. Then the David Bowers Young Numismatist Literary Award for ages 13-17. Then finally the Kenneth E. Bressett Young Numismatist Literary Award for ages 18-22. The prize fir third of each category is a certificate and a $100 Whitman book voucher, for second it's a certificate and a $200 Whitman book voucher and first is a plaque, $500 cash prize and a $500 Whitman book voucher! (That's the prize i'm going for!) But anyway you should just try an article and see if you get a place if not try again next year! If you want more information go to the January 2022 The Numismatist (Page 59).

If you have any question or comment about the contest or coins put them in the comments! Thanks for reading my blog and have a great day!

A YN dollar is “funny money” you can earn by doing things. If you want to see how to get them go to the YN page on this website. Then click on YN auction and finally click on HOW TO EARN YN DOLLARS. You will see a complete list of all the things you can do to earn them. You can bid on things in the monthly auction with these and the big yearly auction!
