Mercury Dime and Spitting Horse!

Coins | CheerioCoins

About a week ago I got this 1929 Mercury Dime (that is my first Mercury Dime) from my coin club. Someone at the coin club won this at the raffle that was for anyone and you didn't have to pay you just got the ticket for coming. He gave it to me. The people at my coin club are really nice and like to give things to the YN's. Another person gave me $5 to spend on the auction for Christmas. Even though its just G-4 its still a nice coin. Then today when I was roll searching I found this Delaware Quarter that is the spitting horse error.

I just want to thank all of you who comment on my blogs. You guys are good friends. I have one question though. Why are there points? I havent really gotten a clear answer on that. Speaking of which I wouldn't have found the spitting horse or even known about the spitting horse error if it weren't for Coin Hunter so thanks for blogging about it!

Thanks for reading my blog and have a nice day!

I remember hearing somewhere that points were originally meant to be redeemed for coins or something, however people were misusing them, so now they are useless. Nice Blog!

Glad the people are nice at your coin club! Not sure what the point of points are, maybe to shown experience and activity on the site.

Where is the error?

If you look at the mouth you will see what looks like a scratch but is an error.

I like that Mercury. Nothing like the look of a silver coin that is worn from doing it's job. Points get YN's YN Dollars to use at the YN Auctions. Ask Sam about that.

Like Long Beard and Mike, here’s another “old guy” perspective. I attended my first “coin club meeting” this past Monday evening. Needless to say, I was disappointed in how it turned out. There were a couple of younger folks there, but the purpose of the meeting was to auction off coins and currency from the members. I should probably start a thread about this. I actually attended to see what the “purpose” of meetings were about. Anyway, that was a great quarter and dime pickup and thanks for sharing! P.S. I have noticed the “points” thing also, but haven’t given it much thought. I figured it was a “ANA” thing for tracking!

Nice quarter find. I never heard of it. My coin club needs more YN. We have 3 YN in our club, and they are very active. Usually we have about 25 members at meetings. I should work on a prize for attending. Would be fun to give something out each month. Keep up the coin hunting !

You are on a wonderful track moneywise and as a collector. Both samples you show here are great. Enjoy publishing as you please, enjoy what you find as a numismatist as well. As for points (which have been quite a subject lately) they give you purpose, but they're not the purpose of the site. They're sought by everyone but in the meantime, communication of discoveries happen. Best of luck!

From an old guy's perspective it's great to see not only have coin clubs survived in the digital age but you younger fellas participating and keeping it alive. So thank you young man. As for the Mercury, or Winged Liberty as it's named, that is a nice series to pursue on nearly any budget.
