CheerioCoins's Blog

Really People?

| CheerioCoins

Welcome back to my blog today we will be talking about something serious. It's kind of an add on to Mike's "Sharing our information" blog post.

The first thing I want to address is points. We are hear to learn about coin/money and get to talk with other collectors who share the same numismatic knowledge as each other. We can teach each other new thing about numismatic topics. Some people just want points. They will comment on blogs, follow people who aren't even active anymore and haven't done anything since 2015, and are exited points. Points are something that we could really do without on this site. They are supposed to "motivate" people to write blogs and come back on this site more often but if you just want points why don't you just go to some other site where you can earn points and not ruin our experience here.

Another thing is people who I don't really get. They don't want points and don't want to learn about numismatic things. All they do is post blogs label Hi or Coins. They have one word and no pictures. What do you want? We try to be nice to them but it doesn't seem like they want that. They don't follow people, don't comment on others blogs it like they want attention. Do they want attention? If they do they should just leave this site. I just don't get it. Niobe cares how many pints you have. What I do get is some people are new to the site but those people are different they want to learn about numismatics and want to take advantage of the great site we have here.

And then of course finally (as Mike addressed) the people who find a coin, go on Wikipedia and copy and paste information. If we really wanted that fake information we could just search up the coin. Use real resources and write it in your own words. We don't want to read those blogs we are just trying to be nice.

If you are one of these people and our reading my blog could you tell me why you do it. I would really love to know.

"Sigh..." I just don't know what to do. I hope you have a great rest of your day.

I remember when there was one blog. The members and the ANA posted on it. Then the ANA split the blog into two blogs, ANA and member blogs. I think this was a wise move on the part of the ANA. That said, the member bloggers now have an opportunity and a responsibility to make their blog better by using the ANA blog as a pattern.

People collect and write in their own way. Length means absolutely nothing, quality of words does. Don't misunderstand the point, blogs are one link used to post on and forums another. I personal feel the latter is where the things you mentioned should be confined. Yet if and when they appear on the other, that's equally well and good. Sounds conflicting, however, I simply believe some collectors overlook where to appropriately post their passion or questions. Maybe they just don't think about what they have to say or share. MrBrklyn summed it up. Simply pass them over and move on. Myself, I read all of them and post a reply or comment accordingly.

All good points. If you don't want to read or comment on a blog, then don't... Enjoy yourself and have fun. ; )

Well now, we have been down this road before! I agree with you. But people gonna do what people do. So if someone puts up a shoddy blog, you don't have to waste energy on it.

There are many blogs I will not read. I have my reasons. I don't consider them blogs. I'm still learning after 30 years. If you think you have all the answers try stamps. Because no one knows everything but they write like they do..

Very well said. I wrote that blog for the sake of the site. I took it down simply because people who haven't been here long some abuse it. That's not rite. I just want to read a good blog learn something and enjoy the blogs. That's all. The Yns I can see because the need blogs for the auctions. They can't afford coins. They don't work yet. I wanted to make this a better site. If I'm guilty of that then I'm happy. I have written over 800 blogs over the years. I enjoyed writing them and many have enjoyed them. We don't attack people in the the comments. Well they know it all. I see that I take it down. There is no need for it. No one is better than anyone else. Were all collectors.. That's siWmple enough. . thanks for a well written blog. I enjoyed reading it. By the way not everyone is a Hemingway! I likwe simple worded.blogs. I used to write to write technical blogs but the yns had a hard time understanding them. .So I put them in my own words.

I agree with you CheerioCoins. I stand with you. Well said for sure. The sad part is those who speak the truth are the bad guys here. I have decided to not comment or look at blogs that are obvious nonsense.

Golfer - there is no reason to read a post your not interested in. It is not a crime.
