Thomas Spence 1795 D&H -1112 Middlsex

Tokens | Mike B

Hi everyone. Well I finely found a Thomas Spence token. One of the most important than any token of even coin. Why. The obverse shows a man riding a donkey. And it says Am I not thine ass. Why because he was one of the first to fight for the rights of man. He wrote many pamphlets on it. What he wrote applies today that's why it's important. That man has a right to own property. He wrote of the rights of infants and children. He was arrested many times. He spent that time in Newgate prison. He was born poor and died poor. Now the reverse has his name but two others you will know. Sir. Thomas Moore who worked for my famous killer Henry the VIII he was best friends with the king. They did like each other. He was an attorney. He fought for the right of man to worship the religion they wanted not the Kings Church. So for that he was accused of treason and his best friend had his head cut off. He is a Saint. Saint Thomas Moore they made a movie of his life called a man for all seasons. Gave his life for the rights of man. Now the third name also fought for the rights of man. He wrote a famous pamphlet called common sense now I sit have to cut and paste that. If you know about our history. You know he fought for our independence. Every year in January 29. There is Thomas Paine day. Does he have a coin. Now he was born in Britain and moved to the United States. The reverse states rights for the advocates of man. These three were fighting for us today back in the 1700's. Think of what they endured. I'm not writing all three of these great men's history. There names tell it all. No need to. And they all died for our right then and now. That's why this token a quarter penny. Is important to collectors. It speaks volumes of great men. I'm lucky to have it. Like i said were is Thomas Paine coin. Another founding father.and it would make a great commen. Not one of basket ball. Another waste by the mint. How exciting!!! I can't wait till I melt it.I hope you enjoyed this little blog on three famous people. And they are. Look up there history. You will enjoy it. Thanks Pat. You Don't Need A Company To Trace Your Family!!

Tokens | Mike B

Hi everyone. Who says you need a company to trace your family tree? So far I have found two tokens one a Leaden token with the name Catherine Byrne and lived at one Spring Street Dublin. They were called that because they were made of lead. I will never own that it's in the British Museum. Now my wife spoke to my family back in Ireland and we did have relatives in Dublin. Both tokens are from there. This one I was just serching and came across it. So we don't know for sure of course but it is a fun thought.. This was a trade token made sometime in the 1840's. I would think that the Queen is the obverse. Yes even on tokens the monarchy was the obverse.. This one a trade token advertises teas and wine. It also says merchants it says Byrne and CO. 6&7 Granby Row Dublin.. Now the Laffey River the six was one side and the seven the other. They were postal marks like our zip code the odd on one side the even in the other. It could also mean the store was two address one building. You see it here today. To get ones family tree done the right way would cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars . And with the recent notice that one popular company has been selling D.N.A. There not getting mine. It has to be done by backtracking all the paper work. We have gone back a few hundred years. Over time of course. But when you see your family name on a token or coin it's nice to have. There are many things we collect in this great hobby. This will be a good luck charm. Why not it makes the hobby fun. And it should be. A find like this is not common. But when I saw it, it yelled at me buy me. So I contacted the seller and he came down almost fifty dollars. He had no use for it and he saw my name so I got a good deal. It's a X45 so it was used. Now I started to look it up and don't you know I found another one at an auction in better shape but sold. That's fine with me. With a token or coin like this grade means nothing. It has no value only to someone with the same name. You saw my name on the set i put together so it doesn't matter. When I showed the family they all wanted one. Sure I will go back in time and get a few. Haha. Seriously it did perform a duty. It did it's job and now it has a home. Can't get better than that. I had to share this with you. A different type blog but still about our hobby. That's the important thing. So I hope you enjoyed it a much as I did. Keep your eyes open you never know what you might find. Pat.

US. Trade Dollars 1873-1855

Coins | Mike B

Hi everyone. Well you look through you collection and sometimes you find something you forgot about. That happened to me. While looking in my safe I moved a piece of paper and heard something fall. So I looked and there was the coin below a 1877 P Trade Dollar. This will not be long even though there is allot written about them. I think they have been forgotten simply because there very hard to find in high grades. I had it checked out by sending detailed photos to the ANA. The gentleman was thrilled to see a real one. That's right they are heavily counterfited.

2019 A.T.B. Quarters Silver Proof

Coins | Mike B

Hi everyone. Well my son was introduced to the hobby by the State Quarters. The mint and Congress thought it would be a good idea to get more young kids involved in the hobby. It worked. Even up to the A.T.B. set. Now the first eight years I must say had some nice designs. He likes them. This year I went to look for the silver proof quarters in MS 69. That's what he wants. I couldn't find them. I forgot i did order a set from the mint. More on that later. I searched on eBay under every set of words couldn't find them. My friend said there is a seller. Turns out he is a friend of mine.

Cardinal Wolsey Ipswich Suffolk D&H 10

Tokens | Mike B

Hi everyone. Well I got lucky at an auction. This token I have been looking for on and of. There is one it is D&H 9 that has a tiny tassel on his Cardinals hat . That tassel makes it a triple rarity. Very rare and hard to find. This token does not and is a single rarity still hard to find. Now I don't know how many of you saw the series the Tudors. That's a series of movies or shows were they mix fiction with non fiction. If you saw it be died out of the kings graces and commits suicide. Nothing could be farther than the truth. He died of dysentery.
