Brand New Member Help

| user_84346

I just became a platinum ANA member, i have a vending business and go through over 1000.00 each week in coins and paper money. I have been collecting coins for many years and started researching them and errors within the last year. If anyone can tell me where to start and how to have my coins graded, which ones to have graded, how much that costs, suggested coin selling sites and any selling tips, whether to sell a large lot at once or 1 coin at a time. Any and all information, guidance and help would so greatly be appreciated.

Red Book & Cheerypickers Guide are excellent resources. I would not send anything to be graded professionally unless it's something really exceptional, like a 1955 double die cent.

Welcome to our wonderful site! You'll find lots of great people here and tons of information! I sometimes sell on e-Bay...I don't think the fee's are outta line, but it can be time consuming. I agree with World _Coin_Nut... I would also wait to send in any coins to get graded, unless you find something really worth the expense. I find that when I send a coin in to get graded it costs aprox. $50.00 + depending on what you want them to do. Hope all this information helps. Just have some fun and good luck!

Welcome to the ANA! My Dad and I sell coins on Facebook in coin selling groups. There are several dozen groups that you can join. Just make sure to follow the rules and find the right group for the coins you will be selling. I hope you have great success!

Welcome! Since you already have a Red Book an Cherry Pickers guide, you have 2 of the best basics. There are tons of coin and currency magazines depending on what you might specialize in. Places like Coin Community, an on line site can also advise you. There are also people/places that will sell your stuff on eBay for you. It is very time consuming to list..Good luck!

The price of grading goes from 17 to 35. If you have alot I mean alot they might make a deal. Call PCGS or NGC they will send you a kit with prices. First make sure there good enough to send and there are different fees for this and that. So wait till you get the kits before you make a decision. Mike

Welcome. You should find that this is a great site with lots of helpful members. I agree with Mike. The Red Book is a good starting point. As far selling goes, a lot depends on how much time you want to put in to this. Ebay has the most exposure but if you are making up a lot of individual lots it can be time consuming. You can always talk to a local dealer. I would save grading coins only for better items that you find but that can be a personal decision. If you are planning on selling a coin you have to take the cost of grading in to consideration.

Thank you for your response do you know of any other sites for selling coins besides ebay? I was told the fees are quite high on ebay I have not sold any coins on there but will look into it. Do you know where i can get easier explanation of the cost for grading. It seems very confusing to me. Someone had mentioned commission selling any ideas on where i could go to find out about that?

I have the 2016 Red Book as well as a Cherrypickers 6th Edition Volume 1. I just do not know where or how to start selling and how to know which coins to have graded or how to have them graded. Is there a site i can sell my coins on or do you have any other advice?

I would suggest a red book and the cherry pickers guide volume one and two. That will give you a start. The red book has all our coinage. The cherry pickers list all the Varieties doubled dies every thing. They have found more after the printing that's expected. Welcome and enjoy yourself. Learn the site and follow active members. Mike.
