Update #1

Young Numismatists Exchange | thatcoinguy

Hello fellow YNs!

Yesterday night, I attended my first ever meeting of the Metropolitan Coin Club of Atlanta! There was a few dealers there, but nothing that I wanted to buy at the moment. The club president rattled of a list of, like, 50 coin shows, some of which I might attend. After that they were going to draw the raffle tickets for the free raffle where everybody gets a ticket. The president had me and the one other YN draw the raffle tickets. It turned out, I drew his, and he drew mine! What are the odds of that? LOL! I won this 1999 Gold Edition of the Statehood Quarters Collection that are plated with 24-carat gold. I will attach a picture below. After that, they had a little numismatic trivia and I picked up the newest edition of the gray sheet that came out two days ago. They had a short break with snacks, and then they had the auction. I didn't see anything I really wanted at the auction (it was all commererative or orverpriced reseves) so I left before it finished. All in all, I am definetally going back in two weeks.

P.S. I tried to take a photo of the set, but the lighting this morning is really bad, so just look it up. Sorry!

Prior to modern technology, social media specifically, the face to face interaction coin clubs provide were, and still are, immeasurable. To read about a younger collector engaging in these traditional venues brings a joy beyond words. All the best to you on your future journey.

Not a club near me. Our population is 2 million five hundred thousand people. . I buy my coins from very good people. In 27 years I was stuck once. The name of the place is Skyline. They don't sell slabed coins. But there all Gem Brilliant. I sent them in all improperly cleaned. First and last time. That was years ago. I do belong to two clubs. Online. And there is nothing wrong with ebay. Never got a bad deal there either. You have to do your homework!! Thanks for the blog.

With COVID restrictions lifted, our club will be hosting our annual picnic in August. What's fun is that we play bingo for numismatic items donated by a local dealer. The one that gets everyone's attention is the full card bingo 1/10th ounce gold eagle! Lovin it! I sure have missed the personal contact with other members. ZOOM is OK, but nothing like in-person.

Sounds like a fun meeting! You really hit the jackpot! Good for you ; ) I don't have a coin club around my area. In fact the closest coin store is a 100 mile round trip! haha

What are the odds of drawing each others tickets ! I have seen stuff like that happen. One of our YN's at out club pulled out his own ticket for the 50/50 once. We have been holding our meetings the first Thursday of every month for quite a while. Only a few months missed last year, then in the fall we started up again. We have a good coin club going, but always need a few more active members. Our annual coin show is coming up in September, a two day event at a really nice venue. If anyone is in the Harrisburg area or can make our show it's September 17th and 18th. Harrisburg Coin Club website will tell you all about it. The coin shows in PA and Baltimore area have been doing very well from what I have heard and seen. The Baltimore Coin and Stamp show at Timonium Maryland Fairgrounds had very good attendance. Gettysburg coin show held by Battleground events did extremely well. I attended and it was really busy when I was there a few months ago. Looking forward to the fall PAN show in Pittsburgh.

You are a very lucky guy. I wish I had a coin club nearby. No chance out in the desert. I do belong to a zoom club and a few other clubs online. I think the zoom meeting will end soon. Too bad for me. It is fun to make contact with other collectors. I'm happy you have the opportunity to be in a local one. Thanks.

I have two club meetings later this very week, I cannot wait to see my fellow travelers. Congrats on the gold plated quarters, too bad they are not the silver variety.
