I have seen many people saying that during coin week they disperse rarer coins into circulation. Is this really true. Do any of you do this?

I heard the same thing, dealers are being encouraged to put rare (wheaties, dateless buffalo nickels?) maybe some real rarities into circulation to encourage the public to look for interesting coins.  Seems like it will take tremendous buy-in for this to be successful, I would be willing to release some Wheaties into circulation, everything else I want to divest from my collection goes to YNs at the PAN convention.

Yeah, releasing actual rarities seems like it would better be appreciated by YNs or new collectors.

A group of coin dealers is planning to release over 1,000,000 old coins back into circulation for national coin week. I personally dont do this, but what I sometimes do is drop dollar coins or half dollars on the ground at my school and watch people's reaction when they find them.

Yes, dealers have agreed to take part in what is being called the Great American Coin Hunt. They plan to distribute coins from their own collection into circulation so that people might find them in their pockets during National Coin Week. 

If you were a dealer what would you leave? I think it will hurt the dealers. Why shop when you can hunt. And what kind of rarities are we talking about. Just old coins I have plenty of them. And the purpose.is to get people involved. Well there at a coin show so what will it get them invoked in.I'm not kidding seriously there at a coin show. They find a rarity and go home. Why buy anything you just received a rare coin . Why don't each dealer make up the bags of mixed coins with a rare coin here and there and charge a few bucks.. Like a.yeah bag and each dealer sell them at a different time. I don't know I guess it will help someone. 

The hope is that big news organizations will start writing stories about to and new collectors will be introduced to the hobby.

Hopefully these dealers will not put too much effort and so there coins be lost to time for forever. I saw that the Mint may also coin some very rare coins and release them into circulation on purpose to get someone involved, this seems like a better deal, however these might also circulate for decades and becomes destroyed in a washing machine.
