ANA Correspondance Course Question

Has anyone taken the ANA correspondence course on Grading?   Seems like a pretty good deal for the price.  Just wondering if you found it valuable.

Looks pretty cool! I personally would not get the course, but if it were one for World coins and not only US coins, then I would be interested :)

I am probably going to go ahead and take the course, it is only 50 Dollars for members and you get to keep  the ANA grading standards book so why not.

I recommend the courses, having completed three. I did the ones that would help me best in my pursuit of the hobby: Introduction, Grading US Coins Today, and Counterfeit Detection. The others are fine, it is just a matter of time and competing interests.  The cost is largely irrelevant. At $50 they are priced right, but the bottom line is that they pay back many times over in what you learn and can apply. Pure enjoyment and understanding are beyond measure. Protecting yourself and making good purchases are among the quantifiable benefits.

Hi as you know I just sent a set to NGC. Finding these 221 year old tokens took five years. I never took a class did read on it. Talked to people about it and there are 19 tokens in this set. When I saw them not in person I would give them a look take a picture and if I thought it would be a MS I would buy it. Once it arrived it took a week of looking over it under loops and magnifying glass with a special light. Then and only then did I send it in. So far 18 have been graded from MS 63 To 66. One more to go. I developed my own form of grading and stuck with it. It works for me but do what Mike says take a class in three dfferent times that's the best. Have someone who you know the right way. My way is only that my way but I have been lucky it's hard work took at least ten years to get to this point. Don't give up. Learn the right way.

Hi Malcolm. I took the courses a few years ago. Not just the grading. They offered a whole set of courses with grading being one of them. Then, they were very good. You were assigned a mentor if you wanted one. I do recommend that. Going by back then, 2014, I think you will enjoy it. They give a nice diploma, after a test. It would look good in your man-corner..

Thanks John,  I already have the application, I am just going to wait until January to sign up.  If I like it, and I think I will, then perhaps another class or two.  Since I am now blessedly retired, I can indulge myself.  Well indulge myself as much as my 13 year old and wife allow.  (:
