The purpose of the post is to get a sense of what collectors think about colorized or themed designs for coinage. The vast majority of posts or comments to them from the many forums I scroll through on the internet seem aimed in the negative manner. Complaints mostly. Yet I do not feel this is accurate in how they are really viewed.
Allow me to explain what it is that I mean. For several years, countries such as Canada and particularly Australia, have offered annual commemoratives representative of comic book characters, fantasy theme and the like. Some colorized or ruthenium plated. Obviously there is a growing market for these as is evident with the United States Mint's introduction of the Basketball Commemorative.
As an older collector, while I personally do not find them appealing, I accept their creations nonetheless. What I'm requesting through a forum post are the thoughts from those who collect these type of coins. More so from younger collectors, perhaps new to the hobby altogether. Again, from a personal perspective, whether colorized, theme oriented or meant for circulation, the enjoyment and satisfaction gained are the same within the coin hobby.
