I recently purchased a bust half at auction graded by PCGS as an XF45 which has several areas showing fairly significant original mint luster and only subtle wear at the very highest points.  I would bet this is an AU50 coin easily which is at least $100  increase in value. Can CAC regrade this and replace the holder or is the only way to know for sure if it will grade higher would be to crack it out and resubmit it? How much does that cost these days for ANA members to do? It's been awhile since I submitted coins to grading services, almost 20 years. ThanksDave

Dave  welcome to the A.N.A. C.A.C. Does not regrade or put them in New holders. You would have to send it to N.G.C.  as a crossover and  they will take it out and regrade. I don't see how much higher if at all. I  cant say because there is no picture.Even then it's hard to grade by a picture. That seems to be your only way out. You would have to join C.A.C. But they basically verify that the company is right.

I have been collecting for 27 years. I don't have one not one with a C.A.C. It doubles the price and takes thousands out of the pool to buy a coin. They have certain rules they only will !lol at certain coins. Beyond that I don't know anything about them. Except what I said before . They put a sticker on.  They do not regrade or out them in New holders. There are no C.A.C. Holders.  Someone who has one will explain more. I will try and find someone to answer your questions. People who have investment coins. And can bet double or triple there money at auction . So good fight I will get someone. Ok!

Sounds good thanks. To your point I would agree it's a long run for perhaps no gain to resubmit something like this since it's just a common date type coin, R1 in terms of rarity, not what I would say is an investment coin. For me though I might consider it just to see if my own grading assessment has any merit.

Hi Dave, I joined CAC a while ago. They only will give you the green bean if they feel the coin has been graded correctly and is in the top group of those assigned grades. meaning: if your coin is a 45 but a "low" 45 the won't put a bean on it. They will send the coin back with a refund of the fees. You are still out the shipping both ways. You will have a credit there. If they feel it is undegraded, very rare, you get the coveted gold bean sticker. Check out there site. They just raised their fees but it isn't bad. They explain it pretty good. There is also a good webinar at the ana about them. Only authorized members can submit for you. Good luck. Let me know if you have any other questions.
