Holy Roman Empire coinage

We seem to think in terms of todays political geography  as a result we loose the "old" perspective.  Before the German states there was the Holy Roman Empire, which for  the majority of its existence was ruled by the Austrian Habsburgs.     However of course  spain and some of the other german speaking states also   took their turn holding the emperors sceptre and orb.    Its an interesting field:  this was one of my first expensive purchases(  Probably paid too much)   a late 1600s  2 thaler of Leopold 1st better known as Leopold the hogmouth.   The reverse I love as  its less an eagle and more of a strangled chicken

Thanks for the link...all investments in experience pay off with time.   From memory I paid €1200  in 2008   for my example( bricks and mortar shop). The link shows me that now I am starting to break even on the financial side. Even though I paid too much I have ( and still do) enjoyed having this coin in my collection
