World Error Coins

Anyone interested in collecting World Errors?

I don't always search for world coin errors, but I usually look for die varieties on world coins. So many countries lack the same strict standards of our US Mint, that you can find some spectacular stuff that many people won't know about for years! I have found some great date repunches, doubled obverses and reverses, cuds, strike-throughs, et cetera (ok, well I guess cuds and strike-throughs are errors, so you got me there!)

For anyone wanting a good place to start with this, just start going through that pile of world coins you've been accumulating, but don't know what to do with - there're probably at least a couple varieties laying in there just waiting to be attributed; great rainy/snow day activity. Modern Brazilian coinage has some doubled dies that make the 1955 DDO cent look almost weak by comparison! I also see a fair amount of doubling on Swiss and Belgian coinage from the 20th Century.

Die varieties from around the world don't get the respect they deserve (yet) because world coins in general don't always get the respect they deserve here in the USA, but methinks the times are a changin'. We'll see what happens as the years progress. Until then, happy coin huntin'!

I thought this Philippines capped die Peso from a Heritage sale was fascinating:

Now, that is an awesome world/foreign error; went for over $41K too - wow!
