Black Forest fire nears 100 percent containment, not expected to have any impact on Summer Seminar

COLORADO SPRINGS, June 18, 2013 - The Black Forest wildfire northeast of Colorado Springs has reached 85 percent containment. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment lists the air quality in the region as good. Currently, the sky is blue over the Pikes Peak region.

All Summer Seminar activities, including tours of regional attractions like Pikes Peak and Cave of the Winds, are scheduled as planned.

The ANA staff thanks the firefighters, first responders, volunteers and other personnel who have helped our community through this tragic event.

"We have another great two weeks planned for everyone, and we look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones," said Susan McMillan, ANA education project manager.

Summer Seminar unaffected by wildfire near Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, June 12, 2013 - A wildfire burning northeast of Colorado Springs, known as the Black Forest fire, does not pose any immediate danger to ANA Headquarters or the Colorado College campus that will host the 45th annual Summer Seminar, which starts on Friday, June 21.

All Summer Seminar activities, including tours of regional attractions like Pikes Peak and Cave of the Winds, are scheduled as planned.

The ANA staff will continue to monitor the situation over the next several days leading up to the start of Summer Seminar. Instructors and students will be notified via email if conditions worsen.

2013 Summer Seminar Updates as of Feb. 6 - Session One (June 22-28)

• Class 16-The First Coinage of the New World (1536 - 1821): has been cancelled due to extenuating circumstances
• Mini-Seminar B-Introduction to Coins of the Revolución (1913 - 1917): has been cancelled due to extenuating circumstances
• The course "Colonial Americana: An Exploration beyond the Coins" was incorrectly listed as being part of this year's Seminar. The correct course is "The Coins of Pre-Federal America," which is the pre-cursor class to the "Colonial Americana" course. The full course listing reads: 

  The Coins of Pre-Federal America

  From Jamestown to the Constitution, America was beset with an overwhelming array of circulating coinage, both foreign and domestic. Beginning with a discussion of world coins adopted for use in early America, this course will focus on types avidly collected as U.S. colonial coins. Related topics, from counterfeiting to grading to archeology, will be discussed intensively in free-wheeling style. Instructors: John J. Kraljevich Jr., columnist for The Numismatist and professional numismatist, John Kraljevich Americana; and Erik Goldstein, curator of Mechanical Arts and Numismatics, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation

Your class experience is a true seminar: students gathered in small groups where everyone actively participates. You'll learn not only from instructors who are recognized leaders in their fields, but also from the collective experiences of fellow students, who range in age from 13 to 90.

Summer Seminar dates for 2013 are June 22-28 for Session I and June 29-July 5 for Session II.
