Elder and Zerbe 1908

I collect tokens and medals related to Farran Zerbe, Thomas Elder, and their on again/off again friendship and conflicts. I recently acquired Farran Zerbe's copy of Thomas Elder's invitation to a dinner in New York following the 1908 ANA convention in Philadelphia. Inspired by the small invitation with an attached coin, I went after the 1908 ANA convention badge designed by Farran Zerbe, also with an attached coin. The latter came from the recent auction of Don Young's collection by Holabird Western Americana. I wanted several other badges from Don's collection, but I was outbid on the others. I am pleased, however, with the nice pairing of the badge and invitation.

John Eshbach to Receive Farran Zerbe Memorial Award

Decorated exhibitor and judge John Eshbach is the recipient of the American NumismaticAssociation’s 2009 Farran Zerbe Memorial Award. The award is the ANA’s highest honor, andis presented annually in recognition of numerous years of outstanding, dedicated service tonumismatics. Eshbach will receive his award Aug. 8 at the 118th Anniversary Conventionbanquet in Los Angeles.

Gene Hessler to Receive the Farran Zerbe Award

Gene Hessler is the 2008 recipient of the American Numismatic Association’s highest honor,the Farran Zerbe Memorial Award for Distinguished Service. He will be presented theaccolade Aug. 2 during the Awards Banquet at the World’s Fair of Money® in Baltimore.Hessler, of Cincinnati, Ohio, is best known in the numismatic world as a paper money expert,who coined the term “syngraphics.”
