My Series on Coin Photography is Bigger than I Thought

If Location, Location, Location is Critical to Real Estate…

…Then lighting, lighting, lighting is critical to photography. I find it ironic that the least expensive piece of my set-up is also the most critical. For example, two desk lamps valued at $10.00 each when I bought them ($25.00 now) have given me some of the most phenomenal results! With photography as it is with numismatics, the sky is the limit on spending. However, there are thrifty ways to take good pictures especially when the least expensive piece of equipment is also the most important! If your lighting is correct, you can get good results from just about any digital camera mounted on a copy stand. Hopefully, this post will help you to take better pictures of your coins!

Excellent Photographs vs. Doctored Photographs

Within the numismatic community there is a healthy debate about what constitutes a doctored photograph and what is acceptable. How doctoring is defined is especially important when it comes to listing photos. That said, I am a firm believer in putting my best foot forward. That is, making the pictures of my coins look their best within my personally defined parameters.
