I just got some mail saying an 1822 Half eagle is going for sale from the Pogue collection. they estimate that is will sell for $10,135,000. that means that it will break the numismatic record for highest price a coin has ever sold for. The auction will be ending on the 26th so I will get back to you then with the auction results. it is being sold at stack bowers website.
Also sorry I have not been active lately I have been having a lot going on.

What about the 1849 coronet 20.00 Gold double eagle heard it goes for.17 to 20 million. Maybe your coin is the biggest in auction. Either way I will take one of eaxh!! Thanks for the information!!

That one is in the Smithsonian. Many people would agree it is the rarest. Not to take anything away from this 1822 rarity. The 1849 most likely will never see the auction block.

I guess my favorite super U.S. rarities are the 33 Double Eagle and the 13 Nickel. If Genii granted me three coin wishes, I don't think this half eagle would be my third. (: But hopefully someone enjoys it.
