The fight against fakes continues. Here's the latest from the Anti-Counterfeiting Educational Foundation (with a Thank You to ANA Past President and former PNG President Gary Adkins).
October 29, 2020 – A previously unrecorded example of a valuable ancient “Ides of March” gold coin commemorating the assassination of Roman dictator Julius Caesar in 44 B.C. sold for £3,240,000 ($4,188,393, €3,588,602) on October 29, 2020. Authenticators in the United States and United Kingdom who verified its authenticity predicted it would sell for millions more than a London auction house’s conservative £500,000 pre-sale estimate.
The annual Professional Numismatists GuildYoung Numismatist (YN) Scholarship Competition has opened. The PNG will provide a scholarship to a deserving YN to attend one session of the 2020 American Numismatic Association (www.money.org) Summer Seminar in Colorado Springs, Colorado, June 27-July 2 or July 4-9.
Prominent numismatist Michael "Miles" Standish, a long-time friend and die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, will get his head shaved in public at the American Numismatic Association 2017 World's Fair of Money® in Denver. The hair-raising act will raise money for the ANA and the nonprofit Standish Foundation for Child & Family Centered Healthcare.
