🌿 How the Program Works (Overview)
1. Get Parent Permission
Before participating, families must complete the official Parent Permission & Liability Form.
Once this form is approved, the student is added to the Google Classroom.
2. Research Volunteer Opportunities
Inside Google Classroom, students will find curated volunteer options with:
- National parks
- State parks
- City parks & open spaces
- Conservation organizations
- Trail restoration groups
- Waterway monitoring programs
- Community environmental projects
Students may also propose their own opportunities pending pre-approval.
3. Get Pre-Approval
Before beginning volunteer work, students must submit the digital Pre-Approval Form through Google Classroom.
This ensures:
- Their activity is eligible
- Their hours will count
- Their location/organization is appropriate
4. Volunteer!
Students may volunteer:
- In person
- Virtually/online
- Independently, if documented and approved
Examples include:
- Picking up trash
- Monitoring water quality
- Supporting wildlife habitats
- Planting or gardening
- Trail repair or maintenance
- Helping with community conservation events
5. Submit Proof & Write a Reflection
After completing hours, students upload:
- Proof of hours (photos, supervisor confirmation, logs, screenshots, etc.)
- A short written reflection explaining how their volunteer work connects to the designs, symbols, and natural themes depicted on U.S. coins
Reflection guidelines and examples are provided inside Google Classroom.
6. Collect Coins & Prizes
As students accumulate hours, they unlock higher prize tiers. Prizes are cumulative and distributed while supplies last.
