the old is the new
recap, on the new bust of George Washington for the new quarters...
The United States mint is going old school with the new quarter series. The bust of George Washington is the death bicentennial five dollar gold peace. Based of the design of Laura G. Fraser. Her original design was for the half dollar but didn't get chosen. Its around a 300$-400$,thats a lot, but it makes sense. The mint only made 64,204. Its the gold what increases the value by 250$-300$. now you will get them back as change and think about the mint using old design for a new design. Theres more were this post came from.

The half-eagle with LGF's design was resurrected in 1999 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death of George Washington. Initially, in 1932, there was to be a half-dollar celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of George Washinton. However, President Hoover vetoed it, and in its place, Congress approved the striking of a quarter dollar in 1931. Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon selected John Flanagan's Washington over LGF's. Though the quarter was only to be a commemorative, it replaced the standing liberty quarter, and the rest, as they say, is history. It is fitting for the obverse image of Washington on the American Women Quarters to be designed by a woman. I believe LGF would be pleased to have her portrayal of Washington appear on these quarters.

I'm not sure I understand the comment about the death of the 5.00 coin. Could you elaborate on that point please?

It’s the death bicentennial for George Washington 200 years after his death.

L.G.F deserved more than this from the mint. She had hard times dealing with them. Its no secret. She is one of the best engraver we ever had. From coins to medals to statues.. And it does make sense her design of Washington is on this set. About time. !

Again, I am not saying this is a bad blog, but it was an original design of Laura Gardin Fraser for the 1932 George Washington Half Dollar (changed to quarter) design competition. If you are meaning the design is based off another coin, then that would make sense. Please be clear with your words and be accurate, if somebody makes a blog that is all false (not saying your blog is), then nobody learns anything from it.

I think it was an excellent idea to feature LGF's Washington Bust on this new series of Great Women quarters.

That was a great gold piece designed by LGF. The obverse design is now in the new quarters.
