Dig a little deeper

Coins-United States | CoinLady

During my weekly bookstore day, I checked out the section where the coin books are. Not much change in inventory. A bunch of old World coin guides, some Red Books, and a few that did not appeal to me.
Just as in coin searching, sometimes you have to look in places where you wouldn't usually look. I browsed through the American history section, and what did I find? US Mint and Coinage. I understand Dave Bowers' book on the Gold Rush had been available at this store too, for a very low price.
Bookstore lovers know that sometimes, books will be shelved in the wrong section. It's up to the dedicated searcher to find these gems. Keep looking for coins. Keep looking for books.

Always fun to check out the bookstores. Did you find a book?

It is a surprise that your bookstore has numismatic books. You are lucky.

Thanks for the blog post. I used to devour coin books like a fiend. Don Taxay’s book is great, if a touch academic. Thanks. Jim

Nice! Barnes & Noble opened a new store near me. Unfortunately, it is a much smaller store than the others and it doesn't have a coin section!! To get my coin book fix, I have to either go to a Barnes & Noble farther away or the Half Price Books. Maybe I can look in the other sections and hope to find something :)

Buy the book before ethics's coin. Knowledge is powerful, and essential for the numismatist. Thanks for the blog.

Great find. Bowers is one of my favorite writers.

A good coin reference library should be part of every collection. That's a good hint for finding good references.

Thanks for the blog your right books are the answer. If in had a book on every coins I collect I would have to move to a warehouse. That's why I buy only books on coins I collect I have two book cases each with seven levels I do have a few on those I don't collect.
