Santa was there
Wonderful day holiday shopping downtown! Weather was OK, decorations everywhere, shopping hectic. Delicious lunch, of course, served by my favorite waiter.

This coin has seen better days. Lettering worn into the rim. Far from Mint state, but at one time it was beautiful, bright and blazing. The portrait on the obverse is still there, unmistakably. The buffalo is there, the basic shape anyway. No need to worry about finding the buffalo's horn, fur on its head, the tail...everything is worn smooth.

Two Moon was one of the three models for the Buffalo nickel. He was from the Territory of Montana, a Northern Cheyenne.
Yes, it's Black Friday, and of course I went shopping. I left at 7:15. Had a wonderful day and a delicious lunch, served by my favorite waiter. This time, there was no stop at the coin shop. It was closed! However, I did some window shopping.
One of my favorite series is the Buffalo nickel. Putting together a date and mint set is challenging, even if all of the coins are not mint state. Many cannot be found well struck. There are proofs in three different types too--brilliant, satin, and matte.
A question for all the Buffalo nickel specialists...where can I find info on the life of Two Moons, one of the models? I know he fought at the Battle of Little Big Horn, and wrote his own perspective on the battle. I have found info in coin books here & there, but is there a bio or any other books that would tell more of his life? (Research for possible writing project) Thank you all!
I recently completed my eighth novel. The heroine, Kerry, is a successful author who cannot move on after the sudden death of her husband. The hero, Shaun, is a backup quarterback who cannot get a break. The two meet on a TV show and fall in love. As the story ends, Shaun is about to be traded to another team, and Kerry is preparing a trip to Little Big Horn for research; she is writing a biography of Two Moons, one of the men who modeled for the Buffalo nickel. As a parting gift, Shaun gives her a pin made of 3 Buffalo nickels.
I love Buffalo nickels. This is the all-American coin, with so much to offer collectors. Minted from 1913-1938, a collector can pursue a basic date-and-mintmark set in any condition. A set in high grade is a challenge, and a set with well-struck coins can prove more challenging. And then there are the proofs.
