Numismatically Speaking, August 2022 has been a Month to Remember

World's Fair of Money | coinsbygary

Summer 2022 has ended with a couple of numismatic events that I thoroughly enjoyed. The first was the ANA summer show in Chicago. The other, just this week, was my coin club’s annual picnic. Both were significant and, for that matter, the year’s numismatic highlights.

A Numismatic Tribute to the Mothers in My Life

Coins-World | coinsbygary

This blog is a numismatic tribute to mothers and motherhood. The first segment of this blog focuses on the motherhood aspect of my 2008 Latvia 20 LATI gold coin and describes the coin’s design using copied narratives from other sources. A number of years ago I posted this blog on NGC's Collectors Society to commemorate my daughter’s birthday and her service in Thailand. This 300 Baht gold coin Commemorates Queen Sirikit’s birthday. At the time I posted this Queen Sirikit was Thailand’s queen. As a result of the death of her husband King Rama IX on 13 October 2016, she is no longer queen. Today I am posting this blog to welcome Golf (user_73939) to the ANA and these boards.

Buying and Selling Part 1

Coins | coinsbygary

Not long ago I posted “My Collector Profile” and expressed my affinity towards type collecting. Subsequently, I reviewed my entire collection for coins I could sell, and with the proceeds I bought several coins that I am really excited about.

A Neat Idea for a Collection

Coins-United States | coinsbygary

I just recently bought this coin from a friend. This coin features a design by Laura Gardin Fraser originally intended for the Washington Quarter. However, even though the Washington Bicentennial Commission recommended her design in 1932, it was overruled in favor of John Flanagan's design. This coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of George Washington's death.

What Makes a Coin Collector Do Back Flips?

Coins-United States | coinsbygary

I love type collecting, my ultimate goal is to complete a Dansco 7070 type set with affordable, yet attractive coins. I also collect a type set of coins struck at every US mint with the exception of the mint in Manila when the Philippines was under US sovereignty. One of these days I'm going to have to buy a coin minted at the Manila Mint for my collection.
