Department of Treasury Meritorious Service Award
This is a Department of Treasury Meritorious Service Award designed by John Ray Sinnock (8th Chief Engraver of the US Mint and designer of the Roosevelt dime, Franklin half dollar, and numerous other U.S. Mint items) and Adam Pietz (designer of the Iowa Centennial half dollar and numerous other U.S. Mint items). Both of their hallmarks can bee seen on the obverse at the bottom left or right of the stairs.
Based on the medal type (special government medal for U.S. government agencies). The Department of the Treasury first awarded these medals in 1949. As you can see from my research find, these medals are rarely awarded.

Truly an interesting piece of history. I must live in a sheltered place as I have never seen most of the items you present.

Must be a rare medal to have, and each is unique with the recipients name. I would think medal collectors don't actively look for these, but find them for sale and acquire them for there uniqueness. Medal collecting probably has the potential of finding rare items at reasonable sale prices. It's hard to value some of these medals I would believe. Interesting medal and thanks for posting the information.

Poor Samuel Rose, why did your rare medal end up in the hands of a collector?
