Native American Peace Medals at National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC

Exonumia | DrDarryl

I visited the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC on August 26, 2022.
On the 2nd floor, in the President Portraits exhibit, I was delighted to see a partial collection of Native American Peace medals.

Yes, very impressive display, but as the others stated, sad that American has not lived up to their promises, and doesn’t seem to hold integrity as a value anymore. 😿

Beautiful Medals indeed. Too bad the United States did not honor these treaties...

Yup, a sad chapter in our history, well one of many sad chapters.

While today's medals and commemoratives are both appealing and desirable collectibles, the techniques used two plus years prior are lacking leaving these to pale in comparison to the masters of our past. The current Presidential Medal series, as a perfect example, lacks such high relief giving them a much more "alive" look. Thanks for sharing you experiences!
