Recently, while at a used book store in Bellingham, WA, I came across a 1958 "Handbook of United States Coins: With Premium List".  Shocked, I looked through the prices that were incredibly low.  I bought the book so I could forever be stunned.  Here are some of the 1958 prices compared to the 2016 Red Book:
