Pattern Coins

Coins-World | Longstrider

Anybody have any nice, unusual patterns? This is my 1943 Mussolini Pattern 20 Lire coin. It was going to be legal tender in Italy after WWII, but it didn't work out!

I'm pretty sure the Mussolini design is a 1970's fantasy with the reverse of the regular issue 1928 20 lire which was a 10 year commemorative for the end of WWI. Joe Paonessa

YOur right JOe. Thanks, I did more info and came up with this. This coin was commissioned in 1978 by a group of Italian collectors, based on the 1928 20 lire coin issued to commemorate the end of WWI.

What was the story behind it not working out?

Italy went over to the Allies before the end of WWII. Musolini was killed by pretty much every Italian around. So, one wanted a coin with him on it. Turns out, I am wrong about this being a pattern. This coin was commissioned in 1978 by a group of Italian collectors, based on the 1928 20 lire coin issued to commemorate the end of WWI. Thanks b@badger mint!!
