VINCIT QUI SE VINCIT

Exonumia | Longstrider

No one has done it so I will. This is my Fathers Day gift blog. “Destiny Is Not A Matter Of Chance, It Is A Matter Of Choice.” This is what is inscribed on my 2 ounce silver bullion coin. This is the second coin in the Destiny Knight Series of coins. It is aptly called The Dragon.

2017 RED DRAGON of WALES

Coins-World | Longstrider

In 1953, for the crowning of the new queen, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll, a series of 10 heraldic statues were created. In 2016 the Royal Mint created a series of 10 coins to honor that event. They are being released at the rate of 2 per year. My 2017 coin, the third in the series, depicts the Red Dragon of Wales. The dragon historically symbolizes wealth, knowledge and virtue among other things. This coins is minted in a BU finish of 2 try ounces of .9999 fine, pure, silver. It has a diameter of 38.61 mm and a diameter of 53.1 mm reeded edge. It caries a denomination from Great Britain of 5 Pounds. Of some interest is the obverse and reverse were both created by Jodi Clark. The obverse, always the Queen side, features the 5th portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll. The reverse depicts The Red Dragon of Wales holding a detailed heraldic shield. I don't plan on buying any of the others in the series. I happen to have a great affinity for dragons, so just this one! I hope you enjoy this blog and photos. I look forward to your comments. Thanks for your time.

THE FATHERS DAY BEAST!

Coins-World | Longstrider

First off... Happy Fathers Day to all us dads! I guess I left enough hints of my lusting for this coin. I was afraid I was being too subtle! I am a huge Dragon fan as well as this particular coin in the Queen's Beasts series. The Dragon below is entitled The Red Dragon of Wales. Modeled after one of the original statues that were created years before, under the reign of King Henry VIII. The statues were to serve, protect and honor the young queen. It is 2 troy ounces of silver. It is officially listed by the Royal Mint as GEM Brilliant. However, the field on the obverse seems to have some type of pebbly texture similar to leather. With a stamped value of 5 Pounds it has a diameter of 38.61 mm of .9999 silver. The obverse is the work of Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark. It features her rendition of Queen Elizabeth II. It is also the 5th coinage portrait of the Queen. Jody also designed the reverse showing the Red Dragon of Wales holding a heraldic shield. All in all, this is a great coin as well as a beautiful work of art. Thanks for your comments and looking! Thanks Kiddo!!! How did you guess?

2015 VOLCANO VESUVIUS-POMPEII

Coins-World | Longstrider

Here I have, for your enjoyment, a unique specimen of a 2 ounce silver coin. Specifically, it is a 2 dollars New Zealand, face value, of a Niue coin minted by the Mint of Poland in 2015. It is 99.999% silver. The finish is an antique type with real lava from the area and selective copper plating. It is 50.00 millimeters in diameter and has a very limited mintage of just 688 pieces. A lot of variables for one coin! I was lucky enough to receive this coin as a gift. My wife felt, as an Italian, I should own this piece of world history from my ancestral home! The coin comes in a beautiful wooden presentation box with a certificate of authenticity. The obverse side is convex struck in High-Relief is a depiction of the volcano itself. The reverse side is concave and includes a half sphere of lava material from the region. It is embedded in the center. I hope you enjoy this coin as much as I do. Thanks for looking and your comments!
